Is your refrigerator old and worn out? This fall the federal government will try to give your kitchen a new makeover by offering a rebate for buying a new energy efficient appliance.
Under the appliances program, shoppers can expect to receive rebates worth between $50 and $200 per Energy Star appliance.
But, unlike the "cash for clunkers" program, you won't have to trade anything in to get it.
The Department of Energy has $300 million for Cash for Appliances program. Will there be enough money for everyone to take part? Only time will tell.
The program will begin to take shape around October or November.
This will be just in time for the biggest shopping season of the year.
Will Santa Clause be able to get a dishwasher down the chimney this Christmas?
